Dr. Alexanian is a Biophysicist and quadruple board-certified Physician-Pathologist specializing in Hematopathology & Dermatopathology. As a member of Mission Pathology Consultants’ Hematopathology service, he is particularly focused clinically on cutaneous hematolymphoid malignancies such as Blastic Plasmacytoid Dendritic Cell Neoplasm.

Beyond previously teaching as an attending pathologist on the Dermatopathology consultation service at UCLA Health, Dr. Alexanian is deeply versed in systems operation, healthcare business strategy, and institutional-level diagnostic innovation initiatives. He previously served as UCLA Health’s inaugural chief medical officer and on-site laboratory medical director of Shanghai, China operations, associate director of international telepathology, and director of special operations overseeing external public-private collaborations; he currently maintains a voluntary clinical faculty appointment at UCLA.

As a recognized expert in telemedicine and digital pathology, Dr. Alexanian is a regular speaker on the national and international circuit, having advised governments and municipalities around the world in telepathology deployment. In 2018, he led Cottage Health’s digital pathology institutional integration assessment and was a founding member of the Virtual Health Physician Advisory Panel.

Dr. Alexanian previously founded and still leads Alexanian Medical Consultants, Inc., a life sciences management consultancy providing physician-targeted medical communication/educational campaigns, companion diagnostic (CDx) assay development and regulatory submissions, and design of laboratory data analytics to drive precision-targeted initiatives for some of the world’s largest biopharmaceuticals, medical device manufacturers, and industry reference labs.

Outside his professional endeavors, Dr. Alexanian enjoys traveling the globe and learning about local cultures via “food tourism,” road cycling in picturesque locales, and discussing the interconnections among geopolitics, global finance, surveillance, and mass-movements.
