Lauren Jacobson, MD

Fellowships: Breast and Gynecologic Pathology, University of Washington; Surgical Pathology, University of Washington
Residency: Anatomic Pathology, University of Washington
Medical School: Yale University School of Medicine

Dr. Jacobson directs our breast and gynecologic pathology services, focusing on providing consistent, high quality pathology services including the most current molecular testing. She presents at the weekly multidisciplinary breast tumor board, and at the monthly gynecologic oncology multidisciplinary tumor board. Dr. Jacobson served as Chair of the Santa Barbara Breast Care Alliance from 2013-2016, Chair of the Department of Pathology at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital from 2014-2015, and as pathology liaison to the Santa Barbara Cancer Consortium from 2014 to the present. She directs the histology and immunohistochemistry laboratories at PDL, and participates in development of companion diagnostic testing for molecular-targeted cancer therapies at Dako/Agilent in Carpinteria.

Dr. Jacobson believes that pathology is one critical piece of an increasingly multidisciplinary approach to medicine. She is always available for consult, including for comprehensive, retrospective reviews of pap smears and cervical biopsies, discussions of appropriate molecular testing, or questions about a particular patient’s care.

In her spare time, Dr. Jacobson enjoys mountain biking and bicycle commuting, reading pathology and science fiction, and shopping at the local farmers market. She is on the board of Sage Trail Alliance, where she volunteers her time to maintain and improve local trails in our community.
